Contest: Challenge Me and Win Half A Million (500,000)

To celebrate the start of my journey I’m hosting a contest. Participate in this contest today and win half a million …. Vietnamese Dong (₫). But read on before you quit school, send your boss a nasty letter or buy a one way ticket to Thailand (ok, actually book a one way ticket to Thailand NOW!).

Being the least valued currency in the world,  today (April 8th 2010) 500,000₫ (Vietnamese Dong) are worth 19.61€ or 26.17$ according to Yahoo Currency Converter. Maybe that is not as much as you hoped for. But hey – you can buy 6,5 kg of dog meat in Vietnam for 500,000. That’s enough to feed the whole family for a week!

Yes, I don’t want to miss the chance to win the equivalent of 3 Chihuahuas.

Awesome! How can I win?

You simply have to challenge me. Challenge me to do something funny, adventurous or uncomfortable.  Preferably related to the countries I’m visiting (Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam or Thailand).

Examples

  • Eat  dog in Vietnam.
  • Visit a certain place.
  • Sleep with a ladyboy (hint: I won’t do that).

I got this idea from gobackpacking.com. To get some ideas look here. I will accept the challenge that I like the most. Whoever posts the challenge that I accept wins.

Be creative! To post a challenge simply leave a comment below.

Rules

  • The contest will run from April 8 – 16, 2010.
  • There will be 1 winner. (German and English version of Live Life Big combined)
  • The winner will be chosen by me depending on which challenge I like best.
  • The winner will be announced within a few days after the deadline ends.
  • Every participant is allowed to enter the contest (by submitting a challenge) only once.
  • Any recourse to courts of law is excluded.
  • The money will be sent to Paypal or optionally sent via bank transfer to bank accounts in Austria or Germany.
  • The prize is 500,000 Vietnamese Dong. Exchange rates of April 8th 2010 (shown above) apply.

Enter today for a chance to win!

Fun contest! I’ll have to come up with something and get back to you. I couldn’t challenge you to eat dog though! ha

If only I had the time to win some Dong. Great idea!

Thankfully nobody dared me to do this, but since you asked, I challenge you to eat a spider in Cambodia. Rest stops will often have a person or two walking around outside the typical restaurant with these creatures – alive and dead. I’ll consider the challenge complete if you eat the legs. Extra credit if you can stomach the gooey body as well.

Good luck!

If you can’t think of something weird you can also suggest visiting a cool, rather unknown place.

@Suzie
Don’t worry, dog meat would be one of the most harmlest things to challenge me.

@Dave
Please tell me that the spiders get fried or something. Eating a living Spider sounds spooky.

@Johnny
Haha, I like that idea.

In a capital city (any S.E. Asian country of your choosing) I want you to find at least three other Austrians, drink at least four beers each and walk around the main square/street/center (or any place with a lot of people) singing your national anthem with enthusiastic pride and joy (lots of jumping and lots of attention grabbing please)! If you film it and post it on this blog I will eventually treat you to the four beers.

Have fun David

Four countries, four challenges right 🙂

Vietnam: Drink cobra blood but don’t forget to eat the heart (most likely in a glass of ricewine — yummo)

Cambodia: It’s got to be some deep fried tarantulas. Yes they are fried – fried hair is nasty!

Laos: Eat an entire plate of pappaya salad with at least ten chillis in it.

Thailand: Get a tuk tuk driver to let you drive their tuk tuk around the block.

Have fun!

After some brainstorming I came to these two ideas:
* eat Balut: This is a duck egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside…. you can find it in Vietnam and be sure to eat one which is at least 19 days old 😉
* befriend a communist in Bangkok who carries a weapon with him and have some drinks with him in order to get his view of the situation!

I’d love to challenge you to eat one of the massive cockroaches or scorpians that you can find on any street corner on Khao San in Bangkok, yet that seems a little too generic.

So rather than do any of those things, I think you should head down to Nana in Bangkok with a shirt on that says “I want to have sex tonight”, written in Thai on both the front and back of your shirt. You need to sit for 1 hour at a street bar of my choosing, by yourself between 11pm to 12am.

Then blog about all of the comments, looks and crazy things that happened to you during that time period.

Wow, thanks to you all for the awesome suggestions. It’s gonna be harder than I thought to pick a winner.
